Introduction & Scope
This covers straight seam welded (without the addition of filler metal) authentic stainless steel pipe intended for high temperature and general corrosive service.

Material
Material is ordered to comply with the requirement of ASTM A-240 in 304, 304L, 316 and 316L grades regularly. Special grades can be made as per Customer’s requirements.

OD : ½” NPS (21.3 mm) to 8″ NPS (219.1 mm)
Thick : NB size in schedule 5 10 S & 40S
Length : As per Customers Requirement.

Process of Manufactures
The pipe is manufactured from annealed strips on modern continuous forming mills with TIG welding process under inert gas atmosphere. All pipes are annealed at a minimum temperature of 1050°C, straightened, pickled and passivated, end finished & 100% tested in accordance with ASTM A-530

Introduction & Scope
This covers electric – fusion welded authentic Chromium-nickel stainless steel pipe suitable for corrosive or high temperature service, or both. Five classes of pipe are covered under this specification.

Introduction & Scope
Class 1 : Double side welded using filler Material and 100% radiography
Class 2: Double side welded using filler Material. No radiography required
Class 3 : Single side welded using filler Material and 100% radiographed.
Class 4: As class 3, Accept root pass may be made without filler
Class 5: Double welded using filler Material and spot radiographed

Material
This specification covers nineteen grades of Material steel. The plate material comply with there requirements of ASTM A-240. Most commonly manufactured grades are 304, 304L, 304H, 316L 310

Process of Manufactures
The pipes are manufactured from leveled plates which are edge beveled and progressively “O” formed on hydraulic presses. The edges of he pipe are either manually TIG welded or continuously welded on Track and Boom. Weld portion is radiographed as per requirement. Annealing of pipe is carried our on continuous furnace. Pipe is further straightened, sized, end finished, pressure tested, pickled and passivated, marked and packed.

Thick : Minimum thickness at any point not more than 0.3 mm under nominal thi
Out of Roundness : difference between maximum and minimum OD 1%

What is the Raw material required for manufacturing Seamless & ERW Stainless steel Pipes?

Seamless Steel Pipe is made from a solid round steel ‘billet’ which is heated and pushed or pulled over a form until the steel is shaped into a hollow tube. Billets are procured both from indigenous suppliers and from abroad. Major Indigenous suppliers are JSPL, JSW & Kalyani and steel round billets are imported from renowned mills from Europe, Far East countries, Canada, China.

To Manufacture ERW Stainless Steel Pipes HR Coils are required. Major Indigenous suppliers of these HR Coils are SAIL, Essar, JSW, Lloyds etc.

What is the Difference Between Seamless and ERW Stainless Steel Pipes?

Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) pipe is manufactured by rolling metal and then welding it longitudinally across its length. Seamless pipe is manufactured by extruding the metal to the desired length; therefore ERW pipe have a welded joint in its cross-section, while seamless pipe does not have any joint in its cross-section through-out its length.

In Seamless pipe, there are no welding or joints and is manufactured from solid round billets. The seamless pipe is finished to dimensional and wall thickness specifications in sizes from 1/8 inch to 26 inch OD. Applicable in for High-pressure applications such as Hydrocarbon Industries & Refineries, Oil & Gas Exploration & Drilling, Oil & Gas Transportation and Air and Hydraulic cylinders, Bearings, Boilers, Automobiles
etc.

ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) pipes are welded longitudinally, manufactured from Strip / Coil and can be manufactured upto 24” OD. ERW pipe cold formed from a ribbon of steel pulled through a series of rollers and formed into a tube which is fused through a electric charge. How to Identify Seamless or ERW Stainless Steel pipes?

To identify that a pipe supplied is seamless or ERW, Simply read the stencil on the side of the pipe

If it is ASTM A53, Type S means seamless.
Type F is furnace but welded,
Type E is Electrical resist welded.
Thats how. It is the easiest way to identify wether pipe is seamless or ERW.

In short, Seamless is marketed on an outdated myth that it does not have flaws but that welded has an inherent flaw throughout the length of each tube, as stated above. Intuitively this concept is easily accepted by purchasers and designers with limited experience with the various products. Each product form and manufacturing method has its own inherent problems and potential defects.
